Muriel M. Yates, age 95, of Rigby, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at Homestead Assisted Living of Rigby.
Muriel was born June 23, 1913 at Brigham City, Utah a daughter to James Newberry Morris and Betsey Scholes Morris. She graduated from Logan High School and attended Utah State University. She married Thomas Harper Yates March 22, 1934 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. She taught piano lessons in her home and was a substitute teacher for the Rigby School district. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she served in all church auxiliary organizations: stake and ward primary, young women’s, relief society as chorister of ward and stake singing mothers, ward organist and chorister. She served a mission in the Washington D.C. Mission from 1981 to 1982, and was a temple ordinance worker. She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She is survived by her children: Beverly Clark of Rigby, Joseph Richard (Lib) Yates of Durham, North Carolina, Patricia (Errol) Smith of Ucon, Judith Decker of Midvale, Utah, Sheila (Richard) Adams of North Ogden, Utah, Morris Harper Yates of Blackfoot, 25 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Harper Yates in 1980, a sister Iva Basinger and 2 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby East Stake Center (4021 East 300 North) with Bishop Wayne Call officiating. The family will visit with friends on Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
