Myrtle Alice Reddick

January 16, 1922 — December 2, 2015

Myrtle Alice Reddick, 93, died Dec. 2, 2015, at her home in Rigby. She was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Idaho Falls, the daughter of Horace Ray and Luerilla Lee Hall. She had three older brothers, Earl, Arlo (Dutch) and Darius, and two younger sisters, Lois and Sharon. Working alongside her family, she grew up tying fleeces that her father sheared from sheep. Lois and her cousin Marge Winchester (Scott) were her partners in crime as they went to movies, swam in the canal, and made “tea” from crepe paper and water. She attended school in Rigby and graduated from Richfield High School in Richfield, Utah. A west coast tour with Earl and Lois in the early days of World War II culminated at Luke Air Field in Glendale, Ariz., where she and Lois obtained employment as administrative assistants. It was there she met Daniel “F” Reddick, a young sergeant from Pittsburgh, Kan. They married March 18, 1944, at Glendale. After his time in the service, Dan abandoned the flatlands of Kansas for the mountains and streams of Myrt’s Idaho. The marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple March 6, 1965. As in her youth, Myrt’s adult life included work alongside family as she and Dan built their farm, raised three children, and nurtured a garden and a number of livestock and poultry. Their home was a hub for family and friends seeking comfort, good food or a great adventure. They enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and family reunions. Whenever there was water, she was in it, swimming or bobbing in an inner tube. She worked for Jefferson County Extension for 19 years as an administrative assistant, retiring in 1987. Following Dan’s death in 1991, Myrt travelled with friends and family, bowled, and volunteered at the humanitarian center and Rigby Pioneer Museum. Her quilts have warmed friends and strangers alike, and she always had some project going. Active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she spent hours in the service of others. Never one to miss an opportunity, she continued to camp, fish and travel until the time of her death. She relished her weekly meetings with her quilting friends, The Garfield Old “Batts”. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Walker, of Rigby; children, Cleave (Chris) Reddick, of Rigby, Cindy (Keith) Bramwell, of Dubois, and Greg (Deborah) Reddick, of Rigby; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers, and sister, Lois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 11, 2015, at Garfield 4th Ward LDS church (5 N. 3900 E. Rigby). The family will receive friends from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Primary Children’s Hospital and the Idaho Falls area Humanitarian Center at 1415 Northgate Mile Idaho Falls, Idaho.
