Nancy Holt Olsen passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 10, 2025 at the age of 94. She enjoyed her family and especially the independence of living at home surrounded by friends, neighbors and wonderful memories.
Nancy was born September 23, 1930 to Ivan Willey Holt and Ruth Clarissa Parry in Oakley, Idaho. Her father was a rancher and farmer in Cassia County. Here Nancy grew up learning the value of hard work whether in the house, yard, garden, or barn- milking cows. She often would help her father with his fox farm and on the family ranch located in Birch Creek fifteen miles from Oakley. The cattle would graze here in the summer months and later brought home to be fed in the winter. Since there were six girls and two boys in their family, the girls were very valuable and helpful with the work that needed to be done. Nancy was the fifth of eight children and has been preceded in death by all of her seven siblings.
Nancy had a love for music her whole life, she sang wherever she went. She always had a melody in her mind or on her lips. She performed as a young girl in church and in school. She sang at her high school and college graduations. Nancy graduated from Oakley High School and Brigham Young University with a degree in education and music.
Nancy met the love of her life while attending college in Provo. She dated Roy Olsen, waited while he served a mission and later married him in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 16, 1951. They lived in Rose Park, Utah for a few years and later settled in Idaho Falls. After their children were raised, Roy and Nancy moved to Rigby, Idaho. Nancy taught school for 30 plus years and raised a family of six children, three girls and three boys. They were married for 67 years before Roy passed in 2018.
Nancy has been active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints serving in many callings. She also served two fulltime missions with her husband to Madrid Spain and St. George, Utah.
Her children are Craig (Lori) Olsen, of Farmington, Utah; Susan(Billy) Hurst, of Pocatello, Idaho; Janice (Lynden)Kunde, of Iona, Idaho; Mark (Melanie) Olsen, of Rigby, Idaho; Nancy (Kevin) Killpack, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Matthew (Jennifer) Olsen, of Sandy, Utah; They have 33 grandchildren and 81 great grandchildren whom they love dearly.
There will be a viewing on Friday February 14, 2025 from 9 to 10:45 am, followed by a funeral at the Rigby 4th Ward, 401 West First South, Rigby, Idaho.
