Nathan Warren Merrill, 96, of Ammon formerly of Annis died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
He was born on October 28, 1909, at Annis, Idaho to Warren Lester Merrill and Mary Idell Hall Merrill. He was one of seven children. He attended Annis Elementary School and graduated from the eighth grade.
He married Mamie Leavitt December 23, 1931, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with nine children, seven sons and two daughters. He was a farmer who loved the land and enjoyed seeing the crops grow and flourish. A big garden was always a priority. He also enjoyed fishing, reading, and spending time with family.
Mamie died on December 11, 1978. On March 19, 1983, he married Elda Murdock in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions, including president of the ward Sunday School and a counselor in three bishoprics for a total of 22 years.
After his marriage to Elda, they served in the North Carolina Charlotte Mission. They also served for 13 years in the Idaho Falls Temple.
He is survived by his wife Elda of Ammon, sons Wayne (Elaine) of Ammon, Louis (Karen) Merrill and Reed (Dianna) Merrill of Rigby, Stanley (Margaret) Merrill of Parma, Idaho, Lamont (Denise) Merrill of Sugar City, Clayton Merrill of Yakima, Washington, Ross (Lynda) Merrill of Parker; daughters Phyllis (Larry) Johnson of Rigby, and Cristeen (Scott) Kinghorn of Kennewick, Washington; Children of his wife, Wayne (Renee) Murcock of Idaho Falls, Charlotte (Mike) Young of Brigham City, Utah, Christine (Ron) Woodhouse of Idaho Falls, Lynn (Aleathea) Murdock of Aloha, Oregon and Beth (Robert) Milligan of Layton, Utah; siblings Lloyd (Della) Merrill of Annis and Ellen Drake of Lorenzo; 51 grandchildren, 133 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.
Nathan was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mamie, one infant son, two daughters-in-law, Terri Merrill and Nancy Merrill, and three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ammon First Ward Church at 3000 Central Avenue in Ammon. The family will visit with friends at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby from 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 from 9:30 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will follow the services at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
