Newell Merrill Goldsberry, 75, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2017 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family. Newell was born May 18, 1941 to Silas Bradshaw Goldsberry and Gertrude Merrill Goldsberry in Shelley, Idaho. He was the second of three boys. Newell graduated from Shelley High School and then enlisted in the US Army and served his country for three years at Fort Stewart in Georgia as a draftsman. After returning home, he married Bonnie Jean Dyer on June 13, 1963 in Idaho Falls. They lived and raised their family in Idaho Falls in a custom home Newell designed. Newell worked for Amcor for 15 years as a draftsman and salesman. Newell attended and graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in architecture. He purchased Sundberg and Associates in 1980 and the time of his retirement in 2012, this was the oldest architectural firm in the state of Idaho and had been in business for 100 years. Newell was an accomplished architect, creating many commercial buildings, schools and high-end residential homes throughout the United States. He was particularly proud of the school he designed in Kodiak, Alaska. Newell shared his love for architecture with his oldest granddaughter, Andrea and nurtured her love for this profession and was very proud she followed his footsteps and became an architect. Newell dedicated his time and skills to many worthy organizations. He coached grid kid football and youth baseball and he served on the board for the Idaho Falls Symphony and the Downtown Rotary Club. He was the architectural representative for over 15 years for Idaho Subcontractors Bid Service. Newell was a witty individual who was devoted to his family. He was extremely artistic and a perfectionist. His children will always remember having the best school projects he helped with. In his younger years, he enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and watching ISU football. He enjoyed all types of movies and especially enjoyed watching TV westerns. He enjoyed travelling and adventuring to new and exciting places. He was a devoted grandfather and loved spending time with his five grandchildren, they will always remember the Saturday morning breakfasts where he would spend time with them and nurture their individual interests. He loved his Tibetan Terrier, Deacon who will be lost without him. Newell is survived by his wife Bonnie, Idaho Falls, son Jeffery Goldsberry, Idaho Falls, his daughter Natalie (Bryce) Rasmussen, Idaho Falls, brother Gary (Kathy) Goldsberry, Colorado Springs, CO, brother Dennis (Mary) Goldsberry, Hamilton, Ontario Canada, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family would like to thank the staff at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for the dedicated and compassionate service they provided to Newell and to his family. There will be a private family graveside service.
