Norlan Park Hulse Durrant, age 78, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at his home in Rigby after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Norlan was born August 26, 1935 at Los Angeles, California a son of Eva Ann Park and Julius George Hulse. His mother past away after his birth and went to live with Eva’s sister, Leah in Idaho. He was raised by James Earl Durrant and Leah Agnes Park and later adopted by them.
He graduated from Ririe High School and in 1954 and 1955 attended Ricks College.
He married Janice Marie Hickam Durrant, March 30th 1955 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He spent his years working as a farmer, as a carpenter and in Maintenance for the Ririe School District.
Norlan was a talented man who was fascinated by machinery, loved working with wood, enjoyed the outdoors, serving in his church, reading books, spending time with his family and friends, and relaxing with a nice cold Pepsi. When Norlan took on a project, he didn’t just finish it, he did his very best quality work. He always said, a job worth doing, is worth doing right, along with measure twice, cut once. He loved inventing things or modifying machinery to work better.
He is survived by his wife Janice Marie Durrant of Rigby, two daughters Kendra (Tim) Price and Karen Durrant both of Roswell, New Mexico, four sons: Dan’L Durrant of Idaho Falls, Dane Durrant of Rigby, Todd Durrant of Nampa and Jay R. (Camille) Durrant of Rigby, two sisters: Nelda (Steve) Leavitt of Rock Springs, Wyoming and Brenda Bright of Rigby, three brothers: Vernon (Betty) Hulse, Gary Hulse both of Rigby and Darcel Hulse of Pinedale, Wyoming, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Julius George Hulse, Eva Ann Park, James Earl Durrant, and Leah Agnes Park, two brothers: Julius George Hulse, Jr. and Garvin James Durrant, two sisters: Lanona Rae Blakely and Ardith Mae Ritter, and a son Evan Durrant.
The Family would like to thank the many people in their church and community that have shown such love and support during this hard time. For alone we are weak, but together we are strong.
Funeral services will be held Friday May 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Ririe Stake Center. The family will visit with friends at the Ririe Stake Center on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 11:30 to 12:45 pm. Burial will be in the Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
