Norma “Jessie” Jeslyn Bensen, 83 of Menan, passed away Monday, January 1st, 2018. Jessie was born April 5, 1934 in Houston, Texas a daughter to Walter J. Schermerhorn and Arnita Vivian Johnson Schermerhorn. Jessie married Leonard Lon “Buddy” Kerbs. He preceded her in death. They had three children, Craig, Kent and Lisa, She married Robert John Bensen in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the Friendship Club February 6th 1981. She grew up in Learned, Kansas and was a very talented synchronized swimmer and life guard. Jessie was a very talented Artist and Florist. She loved to garden and had a small farm that she nicknamed her menagerie. Her hobbies included canning, knitting, sewing, and reading. She would read over 100 books each year. She raised a variety of animals on her farm including chickens, pigs, goats, turkeys, peacocks, emus, rabbits, geese, ducks, sheep, and cows. She with her husband Robert Bensen lived on their farm in Menan for 35 years. She is survived by a daughter Lisa (Bruce) Barney, two sons Craig (Joyce) Kerbs and Kent Kerbs, a sister Cheryl Kring, two brothers Buddy Tabler and Randall Schermerhorn, seven grandchildren Chris, Nikki, Justyn, Jeremy, Lacey, Jessie, and Levi. and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one grandchild and one great grandchild. Memorial services will be held Friday, July 6, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at her house (3573 E. 630 N. Menan).
