Myrle Prophet Coles, a life-long resident of Rigby, Idaho, passed away Friday, March 9, 2007, at the age of 97. Myrle was born January 31, 1910, to David D. and Lillian Saxton Prophet. She was the sixth child in a family of twelve. Her childhood was spent on the family farm east of Rigby and on the ranch south of Bone, Idaho, doing her share to care for her younger siblings along with the daily chores of farm life. She loved wide open spaces, herding sheep and tending the lambs, and found a lot of pleasure from being with her family – whether it was working or having fun. She attended school in Rigby completing the eighth grade. Her love of learning continued throughout her life. Reading was one of her favorite past times and she found great satisfaction in putting her thoughts and feelings in writing.
June 12, 1928, Myrle married Levi Henry Coles. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple. She was a wife and companion to Levi for 67 years. Together they worked side by side enjoying the everyday challenges of farming and ranching and were never afraid of hard work. They were blessed with three children – Douglas L. (Darlene) Coles of Rexburg, Idaho, David Wayne Coles, and Helen L. (Stephen R.) Elliott of Iona, Idaho. Her greatest joy was her 11 grandchildren, thirty-seven great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren, and was always interested in their activities and loved when they came to visit.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked diligently preparing for Relief Society bazaars, girls camp and teaching Primary and Sunday school. She had a strong love and testimony for the Gospel and taught its principles by example.
Christmas was the highlight of the year for Myrle – meticulously preparing for the traditional holiday festivities and dinner. Christmas was enjoyed by all with memories that will last forever.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Levi Henry Coles, her son David Wayne Coles, two granddaughters, Diana Lyn Elliott, and Pamela Marie Coles Shelton, and a great granddaughter Lyndsey Diana; her parents, six brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 15, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at the Clark L.D.S. Church, 198 North 4300 East in Rigby, Idaho, with Bishop John Roberts officiating.
