Ona Fay Wakefield, 86, of Rexburg, Idaho and formerly of Rigby passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2018 in Rexburg. Fay was born August 29, 1931 in Huntington, Utah, the daughter of Lavon Powell and Ada Aileen Jones Powell.
Fay was raised in Huntington and graduated from Huntington High School. On November 11, 1950, she married Thomas Kent Wakefield at the Manti LDS Temple in Manti, Utah. They moved to Provo, Utah while Tom obtained his education. They moved to Lander, Wyoming while Tom started teaching at the Ethite Indian Reservation. In 1972, they moved to Rigby, Idaho and then in 2005 to Rexburg, Idaho.
Fay was member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had served in the Relief Society, Young Women’s and Primary organizations. She enjoyed living the gospel. She also enjoyed hiking, walking, family gatherings, and loved to serve others. She was a very faithful devoted mother and wife. Fay’s family was the most important thing in her life.
Fay is survived by her children; Lyle Kent (Cynthia) Wakefield of Rexburg, ID, Chris Lynn Wakefield of Salt Lake City, UT, Jann (Steven) Gwynn of Ephrata, WA, Craig Thomas (Ruth) Wakefield of Redding, CA, and Troy Dean (Bessie) Wakefield of Logan, Utah. Sisters; Betty Johnson of Preston, ID, Joan (Don) Hammar of Rexburg, ID and Vickie (Doug) Leslie of Pocatello, ID. Thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her husband, Thomas, parents, three brothers; Jay Powell, Reed Powell and Steven Powell and a baby sister, Paula Powell.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Rexburg LDS 16 th Ward Chapel (612 Hidden Valley Road, Rexburg, ID). The family will meet with friends prior to services at the church from 9:30 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.Rexburg 16th Ward
