Oneta "Neta" Hazel Miller

March 24, 1915 — November 4, 2012

Oneta “Neta” Hazel (Taylor) Miller, 97, died peacefully at her home in Annis, Idaho on November 4, 2012. Neta was born March 24, 1915, in a two-room home on the family farm in Sunnydell, Idaho, to John Henry Taylor and Hazel (Mattson) Taylor. Neta was the second child of the family. Neta did her school homework by the light of a kerosene lamp, and walked 2 ½ miles to school or was driven to school with a team and sleigh. She graduated from the 8th Grade in Sunnydell on April 19, 1929. She attended the Archer High School in Archer, Idaho for her freshman and sophomore years, sometimes riding her horse ten miles to school. Neta attended her junior and senior years of high school at the Logan Academy Presbyterian Boarding School in Logan, Utah. This was during the depression in the 1930's, and she worked for her schooling. Neta married Elden James Miller on October 13, 1947. They built their own home on a farm next to Elden’s parents, Henry Edwin and Caroline (Gneiting) Miller in Menan, Idaho. Their children are Karolyn Hazel, Eileen Neta, Reed Henry and Rex Elden. In November 1955, Neta and Elden moved to Dubois, Idaho. Neta always said that was the most wonderful place she ever lived. Their home was across the street from the L.D.S. Church. The congregation was small and they were like one big happy family. While living in Dubois, Neta and Elden’s marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple on February 20, 1957. They were also sealed to their four children for time and all eternity. Neta and Elden lived in Dubois for five years. Then on July 31, 1960, they moved to Annis, Idaho, and built their home on the Little Buttes. They had only been in their new home for four years when Elden was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on August 25, 1964, at the age of 49. Some of the favorite positions Neta held in the L.D.S. Church were Sunday School teacher and secretary; Primary teacher and organist; Second Counselor and Beehive teacher, Nursery leader and Genealogy teacher. For several years Neta worked as a genealogical helper at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. She loved working in genealogy, putting books together for her children and grandchildren, and taking pictures of her loved ones. Neta was a strong woman, with lots of love and faith. She believed strongly in prayer. She loved her church, she loved genealogy, and she loved her family. Neta was preceded in death by her husband, Elden James Miller; her parents John Henry and Hazel Florence (Mattson) Taylor; brothers Donnel Henry, Raymond Franklin, Byron Charles and Lorin John Taylor. Survivors include her children: Karolyn of Anchorage, Alaska; Eileen (Lee) Geisler of Annis, Idaho; Reed (Danette) Miller of Rigby, Idaho; and Rex (Linda) Miller of Rigby, Idaho; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Lois (Taylor) Sharp of Rexburg; her Sisters-in-Law Marion Johnson of Idaho Falls; Luana (Garn) Thueson of Annis, and Faun (William) Dutson of Idaho Falls; many wonderful nieces and nephews, and family friend Lisa King. A sincere expression of thanks is extended to Annis Ward members, family and friends who have visited/phoned, brought food, flowers, cards, and especially love and prayers. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 8, at the Menan LDS Stake Center, 698 North 3600 East, Menan, Idaho with Bishop Gary Sears conducting. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 7 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St. in Rigby, and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday prior to services at the Stake Center. Burial will be at Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
