Opal V. Johnston, 75, of Dubois, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Opal was born June 8, 1932 at Camas, Idaho a daughter of Charles Lynn Barney and Telva Leonard Barney. She was raised in Camas, and attended schools in Hamer. She married Thomas Robert Johnston Jr. August 15, 1948 at Menan, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple, June 20, 1992. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she taught primary and served in compassionate service for many years. She served on the board of directors for the Dubois Senior Citizens for many years. She enjoyed doing gymnastics with her sister Velda as a young woman, church activities, taking care of her family, canning and was an excellent cook.
She is survived by two daughters: Betty (Dale) Fullmer of Idaho Falls, Penny Jo (Jim) Barker of Idaho Falls, two sons: Tom (Glenda) Johnston of Ogden, Utah and Harold (Alerica) Johnston of Rock Springs, Wyoming, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband T.R. Johnston, three sisters Velda Mains, Myrtle Goodman, and Janet Barney, two brothers, Laymore Barney and Ray Barney and a grandson Chad Johnston.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. in the Beaver Creek LDS Chapel with Bishop Bryon Egan officiating. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Beaver Creek LDS Chapel. Burial will be in the Dubois Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dubois Senior Citizens Center.
