Opal Laker, 85, of Rexburg, died Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the Rexburg Care and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born October 18, 1923, in Lorenzo, to William Weir Fyfe and Rachel Elizabeth Connell Fyfe. She attended schools in Lorenzo and also attended Rigby High School. On June 13, 1942, she married Lash J. Laker, in Lorenzo; their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple June 13, 2001.
Opal was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the primary. She enjoyed dancing, camping, fishing, hunting and reading.
She is survived by her husband; Lash Laker, of Rexburg, daughters; Patricia (Jim) Dorcheus, Percillia (Carlyle) Martin, both of Rigby, a son; Ernest Lash (Gloria) Laker, of Post Falls, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rachel Careline Laker, 1 brother, 3 half brothers, and 1 half sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at the Rexburg 5th ward LDS chapel, with Bishop Kent Hillman, conducting. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
