Opal Roberta Green Walker, 98, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2015, at The Gardens of Rigby.
Opal's life began on January 8, 1917, in the cold morning hours at a farm house in Menan, Idaho. Her parents, William Lorenzo Green and Dora Amanda Taylor Green were thrilled to have a beautiful daughter. Opal was the first girl, after four lively boys, in a family of eight children.
Opal grew up following her older brothers and believed her name was "Tom" until she started school. Opal thought that she went to school to "please" the teachers. She attended Menan grade school and graduated from Midway High School where she met and later married her sweetheart, Dale Walker.
Dale and Opal were married on June 26, 1935, in the Logan Temple. As newlyweds, they lived in Lewisville, Rigby, Menan, and Idaho Falls. In 1944, Dale joined the Navy and Opal went to work as a secretary at Roger Bros. Opal always loved and appreciated nice things and later worked at Marler's China Store before moving to Rexburg where Dale had a business opportunity. Opal worked at Tot and Teen, The Village Shop, and helped her husband at Dale Walker Reality. She was an active member of the community and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Opal loved working with young people and served in various church callings in her ward and at Ricks College. She was a motivational speaker in the community, especially for the youth. She believed in looking at the glass half full and loved inspirational quotes that she would share in every card and gift she gave. Opal was selfless with her time and creativity. She had a talent for writing and producing road shows for her church and loved to bowl. Opal was the "neighborhood grandma" and always had treats on hand.
Opal loved her family. She and Dale have three children, Evelyn (Norman) Hart of Rigby, Dale L. Walker of Salt Lake City, and Steven (Viola) Walker of Lehi, Utah. Their posterity so far includes 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 80 years Dale, her sisters Dorotha Green Walker (Verl), Veda Green Erickson (Neal); her brothers Wray Lorenzo Green (Loretta), Cecil Green (Larry Dott), Calvin Green (Lillie), Lyle Green (Lova), Dale Green (Mary), her son-in-law Norman Hart, and her sweet grandson Tyson Hart.
The family wishes to thank the Gardens of Rigby, where Opal was loved and received the best possible care. A special thanks is also extended to Encompass Hospice, Solace Hospice, Stacey Eckman, and Barbara Anderson.
