Orville James Hanson, 81, of Rigby, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born March 5, 1927, in Aberdeen South Dakota, to Ole Hanson and Julia Kolden Hanson. He was raised and attended schools in Aberdeen South Dakota. Later he served in the U.S. Air Force. In 1950, he married Leatha Persons in South Dakota, they later divorced. On Dec. 7, 1973, he married Sandra Mae Cranston in Longview, Washington; their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City, L.D.S. Temple, on Aug. 11, 1975.
He worked as a police officer for the city of Aberdeen, South Dakota for 20 years, for International Paper Co. in Longview, WA for 12 years and for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as a custodian until his retirement in 1992 at 72 yeas of age.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a counselor in the bishopric, as a ward clerk and as a cub master. Orville enjoyed gardening, landscaping and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hanson, of Rigby, daughters; Linda Krause, of Ellendale, North Dakota, Cheryl Hanson, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, Susan (Harold) Hayes, of Richland, Washington, Karen (Julio) Rodriquez, of Castroville, California, sons; James (Sallie) Shank, of Rigby, Joe (Rogene) Hanson, of Houston, Texas, a sister; Olive (Vernon) Evanson, of Lemmon, South Dakota, brother; Julian Hanson, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, 17 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother.
A brief funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2009 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, (101 W. Main Street, Rigby, Idaho 83442) followed by a graveside service and interment at Rigby Pioneer Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by the Jefferson County Veterans Team and the Idaho Honor Guard
