Oscar Ellsworth, 79, of Lewisville, Idaho passed away from heart failure on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at EIRMC in Idaho Falls. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Oscar was born September 23, 1929 in Lewisville to Preston Blair Ellsworth and Edna Boyes Walker. He was the youngest of nine children—five brothers and three sisters. He attended schools in Lewisville and Midway. He graduated from Midway High School and attended Ricks College. He married Gwen Goody of Rigby, Idaho on March 16, 1955 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various organizations. He served as president of the Jefferson County Farm Bureau, board member of the Jefferson County National Farmers Organization, director of Idaho Travertine, and director and chairman of the Menan Co-op. He is an Honorary FFA Chapter Farmer. He received the Conservation Farmer of the Year award in 1972. Oscar was an outstanding farmer. He farmed and raised cattle in the Lewisville area for over 70 years.
Oscar loved his family—especially his grandchildren. As the father of seven children his goal was to teach them to work hard and to love the soil, as his father taught him. He enjoyed taking cruises with his family and friends. His association with members of “The Club”, friends for over 50 years, were the social highlights of his life. He loved fishing on Yellowstone Lake and was an avid Utah Jazz fan.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen of Lewisville; a daughter, Nancy Castaldo of Draper, UT; sons, Roger Ellsworth of Roberts, Terry (Mary) Ellsworth , John (Lori) Ellsworth, David (Suanne) Ellsworth all of Lewisville; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grand children; sisters, Marjorie Gillespie of Idaho Falls, Edna Bramwell of Sun City, AZ, Dorothy Roundy of Mapleton, UT; brother, Elmer Ellsworth of Lewisville.
He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter—Sherry Dee, son—Preston Blake, grandson—Kyle T, and brothers—P. Blair, Stephen, James, and George Ellsworth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at the Lewisville Chapel. The family will visit with friends and family from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lewisville First Ward building and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Lewisville cemetery, under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
