Patricia Yates Smith

Patricia Yates Smith, of Ucon, Idaho, our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully, October 19, 2010 at home surrounded by her family. Pat was born November 13, 1941 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Thomas Harper Yates and Muriel Morris Yates. She attended grade school and High School at Rigby. She received an LDS Seminary Scholarship to Ricks College, and completed her Associate Degree in Secretarial training in 1961. While at Ricks College, Pat met the love of her life, Errol R. Smith. Pat served an LDS Stake mission while Errol served a mission to the Western States. Pat married Errol, June 10, 1964, in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. From this union, three children were born, Douglas Wayne, Jeffrey Reed, and Betsey Nicole. Pat’s greatest joy was her family and many friends, spending time with them, whether it was traveling, camping, playing games or just visiting. She dearly loved her children and grandchildren, and spent many hours talking to them and encouraging them in their endeavors. Pat had exceptional abilities as a secretary. Several times during her secretarial career, she was timed/tested for typing and taking shorthand at over 110 words per minute, without errors. She worked as a Receptionist, Court Reporter Transcriptionist and Executive Secretary for various businesses in Idaho Falls and the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory while raising her family. Pat was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in various callings in the Sunday school, Primary, and Relief Society. Pat loved music and served as Primary and Ward Organist in various LDS Wards over her lifetime, until health problems forced her to give up her beloved music. Pat was also talented at crocheting and spent countless hours making baby blankets and bibs for family members and provided as humanitarian aid to victims of various tragedies. Pat is survived by her husband of 46 years, her children, Douglas Wayne Smith of Newdale, Idaho; Jeffrey Reed Smith of Phoenix, Arizona; Betsey Nicole (Travis) Lucero of Bountiful, Utah; Two Grandchildren, Mackenzie Reed Smith, and Jacob Glen Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one grandson, Cole Stetson Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010, at the Ucon LDS Stake Center, 2967 East 105 North, with Bishop Ryan Loftus of the Homestead Ward, officiating. The family will visit with friends, Sunday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby Idaho, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. , prior to services at the Ucon LDS Stake Center. Burial will be in the Victor Cemetery in Teton Valley, under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
