Paul L. Hoopes, 77, of Idaho Falls, died September 4, 2009, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 21, 1932, in Rupert, Idaho, to Benjamin Hoopes and Mary May Fifield Hoopes. He attended schools in Rupert. On February 27, 1955, he married Freda Loraine Lee, in Idaho Falls; their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls, LDS Temple. Along with his father and brothers he logged, hauled seed potatoes and fruit. Later he owned and operated his own heating business.
As a young man Paul was an amateur boxer, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, reading books, traveling, and watching war movies and westerns. He especially enjoyed visits from grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons, Don (Zeldann) Hoopes, of Idaho Falls, Lloyd (Ann) Hoopes, of Boise, sisters; Dorothy Drake, of Rigby, Lois Grover, of Idaho Falls, brothers; Lawrence “Larry” Hoopes, of Boise, Harlow “Butch” Hoopes, of Rigby, 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 4 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
