Phil J Campbell

Phil J Campbell, 82, returned home to his Heavenly Father at his home in Rigby, Idaho on December 9, 2016. Phil was born on November 5, 1934 in Teton Valley, Idaho. He is the son of Tomas Hilton and Bessie Chase Campbell. Phil attended school in Teton Valley. In his youth, he was very active in 4-H and scouting. Phil was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a faithful missionary for the Church in the North Central States Mission; and throughout his life he served faithfully in many other callings. On August 21, 1957 Phil married Betty Ruth Hall in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He received his bachelor’s degree in education at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. He taught elementary school in many locations in Idaho Falls and Bancroft, Idaho. He was an elementary school teacher for 35 years. After retiring from teaching, Phil and his wife Betty served a Church mission to Thailand and Nepal where they taught English to 35 elementary schools in Bangkok and the surrounding areas. They served two more missions as local service missionaries. Phil was always serving others. He loved teaching children and helping them achieve their goals. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Betty Ruth Hall Campbell, of Rigby, his sisters Noma Wilson and Connie Lenard, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho, his children: Phil K (Marylou) of Menan, Idaho, Hilton Earl (Paulette) of Fort Collins, Colorado, Roxie Campbell (Gary) Denton of Lewiston, Utah, Mike Chris (Debbie) of Blackfoot, Idaho, Hyrum Thomas (Stacey) of Liverpool, Texas, and Corey Dirk (Elizabeth, deceased) of Little Rock, Arkansas. Phil and Betty have 23 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the Rigby 16th Ward LDS Chapel. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Rigby and from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church.
