Preston Burns Brimhall

Preston Burns Brimhall, 96 of Idaho Falls, Idaho died Monday, January 8, 2018 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He was born January 8, 1922 in Glendale, Utah the son of William Sylvanus Brimhall and Emma Swapp Brimhall.  Preston grew up in Paris, Idaho and attended schools there. He was a graduate of Fielding High School.  He continued his education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho earning a degree in Law.  He was the captain of the basketball team and earned athletic honors while in High School, College, University, and Military levels. Preston served his country during World War II as a fighter pilot. Preston taught Business Law, History and coached at Pocatello High School. He later worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and retired from the Department of Energy. Preston was very involved in his community and served in the Idaho State Legislature. On March 24, 1943, Preston married Elizabeth Ann Poole in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized on August 22, 1944 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple.  As a member of the LDS Church, he had many opportunities to serve including as a Young Men’s President, a High Councilor, a Bishop, Stake President.  He served a mission with his wife for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to New Zealand and as the first Mission President of the Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah, and President of the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.  He grew up playing sports and continued his love for it while watching it over the years. Alabama and BYU were his teams.  He enjoyed the Theatre, telling stories and writing.  His service in the military and the legislature imbedded his love for his country.  He was a true patriot and loved America.  First and foremost, he loved his family. Preston is survived by his children; Diane (David) Mordecai of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Barry William (Gwendolyn) Brimhall of Murietta, California, and Kelly William (Nancy) Brimhall of Island Park, Idaho, Brother, Max B. Brimhall of Farmington, New Mexico, 19 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife E. A. Betty Brimhall, his parents, sisters, Lucille Gertsch and Inez Brimhall.  Five brothers, William Dale, Keith S, Claud S, Don S and John Brimhall and two great grandchildren. A funeral service will held Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Idaho Falls LDS 2nd Ward Chapel (885 South Boulevard Street, Idaho Falls, ID).  The family will meet with friends prior to services on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 AM at the church.  Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to BYU-Idaho at the Preston & Betty Brimhall Grant in Aid Scholarship 30620421.
