Royal Dwain Keller, 84, of Rigby, passed away suddenly at home Thursday, March 17, 2016, following surgery. Dwain was born Oct. 1, 1931, in Clark, Idaho to Irvin William and Birdie Marie Bills Keller. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby. He served an LDS mission to the Western Canada Mission from 1950-1952.
On Aug. 13, 1954, he married Shirlene Jensen in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. They were the parents of four children, Rick, Rodney, Kris, and Shauna. They first made their home in Idaho Falls then in Rigby where Dwain worked for 40 years as a salesman and driver for Farr Candy Co., with a route from Rigby to West Yellowstone.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served 7 consecutive years as bishop to the Rigby 5th Ward then the Rigby 9th Ward from 1988-1995. He also held various other church callings including 16 years as a high counselor in the Rigby Stake and the Ricks College 3rd Stake. He and Shirlene served an LDS mission to the Idaho Falls LDS temple visitors’ center and were temple workers in the Idaho Falls LDS temple.
Dwain also shoed horses. He loved working and riding horses. He enjoyed cowboying, ranch and farm work, leatherwork, reading, poetry, and tinkering. He used his snow blower to clear the neighborhood walks.
Dwain is survived by his wife Shirlene Keller and their children Rick (Alene) Keller of Pocatello, ID; Rodney (Christi) Keller of Coos Bay, OR; Kris (Cynthia) Keller of Rigby, ID; and Shauna (Troy) Thompson of Rigby, ID; by his sisters Ellen May (Ivan) Bruderer of Star Valley, WY; Marjean (Lynn) Doody of Tacoma, WA; and Joyce (Gary) Jenks of Idaho Falls, ID; and by 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Irvin and Birdie Keller and his brother Irvin Neil (Rusty) Keller.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Rigby LDS Stake Center, 258 W. 1st N., Rigby. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday, both at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
