Randall Gurell Maughan

Randall Gurell Maughan, 69, of Rigby, Idaho died Sunday, September 17, 2017 at his home in Rigby. He was born December 31, 1948 in Logan, Utah, the son of Seth Poppleton Maughan and Mary Margaret Gurell Maughan. Randall attended schools in Cache Valley graduating from Cache Valley High School. He continued his education at Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho, Utah State University in Logan, Utah and Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho where he earned a bachelors and masters degree. He started his career as a Special Ed teacher then moved on to school administration. He served as vice principal and then later principal of Shelley High School. He also worked as principal in Challis, Arco and American Falls, Idaho. In Benton City, Washington he served as the High School assistant principal. He also coached football and wrestling. He served as the Superintendent of the Swan Valley School District.He married Carol Powell in 1969. To this marriage they added Heather, Rachel, Joshua and David. Carol and Randall later divorced. On September 25, 1976 Randall married Yvonne Reiman in Ashton, Idaho. To that union four of his children were born. Karalee, Greer, Brooke and Mica. Yvonne preceded him in death. On June 22, 1999 Randall married Kathy Lynn French in Abeline, Texas. Together they have made their home in Rigby, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on December 17, 2005.As a member of the LDS Church, Randall has served as a Scout Master and recently as a Temple Ordinance Worker and Temple Baptistry Worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. Having a heart that was always drawn to the youth, he served as the Director of the Harriman State Park Youth CCC. He became involved in Mountain Man activities and was the first member of the Ephriam Mountain Men Club. He loved fishing and all things out doors. Randall was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame.Randall was a loving husband, father, grandfather, mentor and coach that extended far beyond his family. Randall is survived by his wife Kathy. His children; Karalee Reiman Maughan, Greer Reiman (Matt) Swearingen, Brooke Yvonne (Eran) Byington and Mica MarJean (Derek) Matteson, Heather Lynn Powell, Rachel (Wayne) McIntyre, David (Erin) Powell and Bryan (Angie) Braga. Sisters; Deborah (Quentin) Cudney and Dorcus (Stephen) Klienschuster. Brothers; Colby Maughan, Tracy (Jeana) Maghan and Thomas (Kim) Maughan. 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Yvonne, a son, Joshua, and siblings, Gregory Maughan, Kelly Maughan and Nolan Maughan.A funeral service will be held, Friday, September 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Rigby 18th Ward LDS Chapel. 4021 East 300 North, Rigby, Idaho. The family will meet with friends Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 7 to 8:30 PM in the Eckersell Memorial Chapel, (101 W. Main Street, Rigby,ID) and again on Friday prior to services from 10 to 10:45 AM at the church. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
