Rayola Plant Soderquist

February 19, 1930 — June 23, 2014

Rayola Plant Soderquist, 84, of Ammon, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014. She was born February 19, 1930, in Rose, Idaho, the daughter of Clifford Plant and Van Dora Elizabeth Nelson Plant. She was the third child with older siblings, Merlin and Marvetta, later a younger brother Morgan was added to the family. She attended elementary school at Rose Elementary and high school at Snake River High School. She graduated in 3 years and went to Ricks College for 2 years where she met Ray Soderquist. She and Ray were married and moved to Corvallis, Oregon where both of them attended the University while Rayola taught school. After Ray graduated they moved to Oxnard, California for a couple of years then they moved to Virginia where Ray was employed and Rayola taught school and continued her education until she received her Master’s Degree from George Washington University. Ray and Rayola lived over 50 years in Vienna, Virginia where Rayola taught school in Fairfax County for several years. They and their son, Randy traveled extensively with Ray’s work. They also spent a lot of time working together on crafts, construction and woodworking projects. Randy and his family live in Virginia where they carry on the family construction business. Ray and Rayola were officiators at the Washington DC LDS Temple and loved their many friends and neighbors in Vienna, Virginia. When Ray passed away, Rayola returned to Idaho where she has extended family. She became an officiator at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple which she loved to do. Her final days were spent crocheting items for the Humanitarian Center and serving others. She is survived by her son, Randy (Sharon) Soderquist, of Locust Dale, Virginia, grandchildren, J Julie Rae (John) Cannon, of Albany, New York, Daniel Soderquist, of Virginia, Katie (Richie) Clarke, of Arkansas, Marlie Soderquist of Locust Dale, Virginia, 6 great-grandchildren, sister, Marvetta Soderquist of Idaho Falls, brother, Morgan Plant, of Meridian, sister-in-law, Irene Larsen, of Ammon, and many nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Merlin, her husband Ray and 2 infant sons. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2014 at Fielding Memorial Park Cemetery in Idaho Falls. Services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel, in Rigby.
