Reta L. Walker

May 8, 1930 — October 14, 2011

Reta Lindstrom Walker, 81, of Lewisville, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 14, 2011. Reta was born on May 8, 1930 in Rigby, Idaho to Maurice Lindstrom Sr. and Thelma Briggs Lindstrom. She was the second of five children and grew up on the family farm in Lewisville, Idaho. She attended grade school in Lewisville and later graduated from nearby Midway High School. Reta married C. Van Walker on September 8, 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho, where Reta worked while Van attended pharmacy school at Idaho State University. After Van completed his schooling, they returned to Lewisville, where Van was employed at Fogg Drug and Reta began her life-long role as mother and homemaker. Reta and Van later moved to Monteview, Idaho where they established a family farm. Reta learned to operate the machinery and manage the farm while Van continued to work as a pharmacist in Idaho Falls. Many fond memories were developed over the years on the farm, including raising their sons and spending time together as a family. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving faithfully in both ward and stake callings, and will be remembered for her dedicated service to others, but most importantly as a “friend”. Reta later became a co-owner of Skyline Drug when she and Van purchased the business. She spent many years working beside Van in the pharmacy and operating the Skyline Drug Post Office. She was known to many of the customers as the “Stamp Lady”. Her beloved hobby was gardening. Upon retirement, she spent countless hours working in her flower beds and vegetable garden. She was an avid cook and loved to serve delicious meals to family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 61 years and by her three remaining sons, John (Janet) Walker, Frank (Traci) Walker, and Doug (Michell) Walker and two daughters-in-law, Debbie Mills and Marilyn Walker; 19 grand children; 19 great-grand children; and siblings Dorothy Runz, Pauline (Stan) Sutton, Maurice (Connie) Lindstrom, and Robert (Nancy) Lindstrom. She was preceded in death by her parents and four sons, Charles Walker Jr, Sydney Walker, Larry Walker, and Eric Walker. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 19, at the Lewisville LDS church with Bishop Val Rosenberg officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday at the Lewisville LDS church and from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Wednesday, prior to the service. Interment will be at the Lewisville Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Her family expresses deep appreciation to the staff at Aspen Hospice, especially Beth and Monica for their loving and dedicated care
