Our loving mother and grandmother, Rhea K Lounsbury, 95, of Rigby, passed away quietly and peacefully on September 30, 2023, at Promontory Point, Ammon, Idaho.
Rhea was born August 25, 1928, in Lewisville, ID, to Leland and Gladys Kinghorn. She attended school in Lewisville and graduated from Midway High School. She worked at the Michell Inn in Rigby and also in the Treasure’s Office in the Rigby Courthouse.
She met her future husband at a Saturday night dance and married Ralph W. Lounsbury on February 18, 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They bought a 100-acre farm in Hamer, Idaho, where they raised their five children and lived there 41 years.
Rhea was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings: beehive teacher, secretary in the Sunday School, Relief Society teacher and secretary in the Stake Primary.
She enjoyed swimming, picnics, and playing softball with the family, embroidery, reading and tending grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ralph and Rhea, in 1980 were called to serve in the Louisiana, Baton Rouge Mission and spent 16 months in Pearlington, Mississippi.
Rhea is survived by her children, Nancy Webb, Loren (Sally) Lounsbury, Marie Bennion, Brent (Marilyn) Lounsbury, daughter-in-law Pat Lounsbury; 22 grandchildren, 79 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Gladys Kinghorn, her husband Ralph W Lounsbury, son Larry Lounsbury, sons-in-law Dave Bennion and Doug Webb, and sisters Lavon Kinghorn, and Helen & Jim Sobieski.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Rigby 21st LDS Ward Chapel (365 N 4100 E Rigby ID 83442) on Saturday, October 7, 2023. After which, a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Lewisville Cemetery. A luncheon will be back at the church.
