Richard Dan Anderson, 85, of Rigby, Idaho passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at his home in Rigby. Richard was born August 5, 1935 in Richmond, Utah, the son of Daniel Swen Anderson and Myrtle Cole Smith Anderson.
Richards’s family moved to Los Angeles, California when he was a very young boy. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Army where he served in Ft. Lewis, Washington with the 2 nd Infantry Division and later in Fairbanks, Alaska at the Yukon Command Center.
Richard met his wife in Santa Monica, California. He married Ivia Lee Meyers on September 2, 1959 in Tonopah, Nevada. They bought a home in Mar Vista, California. He started and ran a successful welding company, Anderson Welding and Fabrication in Santa Monica, California.
Richard had a hobby of raising exotic birds and other animals. At one time he had emu, pigs, and sheep. His children followed his example, bringing home stray dogs, birds and cats.
Richard is survived by his wife, Ivia Anderson of Rigby, Idaho. Daughters; Katherine (Drew) Oakey of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Teresa Anderson of Rigby, Idaho and Jennifer (Chad) Powell of Cedar Fort, Utah. He had one sister, Darlene (Jim) Smith of West Los Angeles, California, twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held in his honor, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 12:00 Noon in the Water Springs Calvary Church (4250 South 25 th East, Idaho Falls, ID 83404). The family will meet with friends prior to services from 11:00 am to 11:45 am at Water Springs Calvary Church. Interment will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery in Rigby, Idaho.
