Richard “Dick” James Purcell, 76, of Idaho Falls, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.
Dick was born November 6, 1939 in Menan, Idaho a son to Maurice James Purcell and Leona Gunderson Purcell. He attended schools in Menan and graduated from Rigby High School. As a young man he enjoyed riding his trick horse Diamond in Rodeo’s around the area.
He married Marian Henderson June 11, 1959 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked as a truck driver for Edwards Brothers, HK Contractors, Delbert Lott, Cedar Point and Idaho Asphalt.
His grandchildren kept him young at heart and he cherished every moment with them.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, four wheeling and playing pool.
He is survived by his wife Marian Purcell of Idaho Falls, two daughters; Susan (Ken) Stoneberg of Rigby, Shellie (Dan) Drummer of Idaho Falls, a son Rodney H. (Anne Drea) Purcell of San Marcos, California, three sisters; Marie (Don) Hill of Heyburn, Idaho, Lois Purcell of Menan, and Maurine (Steven) Purser of Menan, a sister-in-law Carol Purcell of Idaho Falls, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Ronald James Purcell, and a brother Tom Purcell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Lincoln 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 2545 Mesa Street, Idaho Falls, Idaho). The family will visit with friends Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, (101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho) and on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Lincoln 3rd Ward Church. Interment will be in the Teton-Newdale Cemetery.
