Richard C. “Dick” Swager, 87, of Rigby, Idaho died June 21, 2005 at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
Dick was born June 20, 1918 in Idaho Falls, a son of Carl Swager and Francis Sullivan Swager. He attended school in Blackfoot and graduated from Rigby High School. He attended Idaho State University and graduated from University of Denver in 1942. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945 in Amarillo, Texas achieving the rank of Tech Sergeant. Dick married Kathryn Little on May 8, 1942 in Denver, Colorado. Dick worked in the State Auditor’s office from 1945 to the spring of 1947, when he moved to Rigby. He started his accounting practice with David Lee Jr. in the old Idaho First National Bank Building. Dick was a member of the Elks Lodge. The word retire was not in Dick’s vocabulary, he enjoys going to work everyday, golfing in the men’s league at Jefferson Hills, playing pinochle with his club, going steelhead fishing on the Salmon River, attending church, watching T.V., reading, and working in his yard and garden.
Survivors include his wife Kathryn L. Swager of Rigby, daughter Judith S. (Robert) Bailey of Boise, three sons Richard C. (Verna) Swager Jr. of Boise, David P. (Debra) Swager of Rigby, and Mark H. (Patty) Swager of Kennewick, Washington, sister Jean Ratigan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, brother Thomas (Lois) Swager of Rigby. 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Jack.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, June 24, 2005 at the Christ the King Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. The family will meet with friends on Thursday night from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow the services at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery.
