Richard Keith McCardell, age75, of Rigby, died at his home, Monday, June 18, 2012.
Richard was born November 6, 1936 at Pocatello, Idaho a son of Keith Bronson McCardell and Gladys Fern Harris.
As a young boy he herded cattle and was taught to work hard.
He attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School. He then attended Idaho State University and was in the 1st Masters Graduating class with a Masters Degree in Physics.
He married Janet Lynn McCardell March 30, 1963 in Leslie, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in April of 1999.
He worked as a Nuclear Engineer at the INL for over 40 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, rafting, raising livestock and horses. He had a love for music especially classical and Broadway musicals. He was a great reader and had a desire to learn. He was courageous and steadfast when faced with adversity. He was a compassionate husband, father and friend and was a great man.
He is survived by his wife Janet of Rigby, one daughter, Laurie Michelle Lewis of Idaho Falls, a son Bryan Keith McCardell of San Diego, California, step sons: Gregory Brennan of Aloha, Oregon and Michael Brennan of San Diego, California, one sister Patricia McCardell of Pocatello and a brother Peter McCardell of Seattle, Washington, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nita Fay McCardell and two brothers Mike McCardell and Kenneth McCardell and a grandson John Brennan.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rigby Idaho East Stake Center, 4021 East 300 North, Rigby. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Stake Center. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
