Richard E. Ricks, age 86, of Milo, died at Life Care Center of Idaho Falls, Friday, February 10, 2006.
Richard was born on December 13, 1919, at Antelope, Idaho a son of William Charles Ricks and Katherine Ellen Humphrey Ricks. He was raised and attended school at Antelope and graduated from Ririe High School. He attended Barber School in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served an apprenticeship in Logan, Utah, Pocatello, Idaho and finished at the Rio in Idaho Falls. Richard married Luella Bird on July 19, 1946 in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. He worked at the Rio Barber Shop then he moved to North Boulevard to start his own barber shop for seven years, then he moved to Mud Lake for six years. While in Mud Lake he and his wife, Luella ran the Ricks Grocery Store and Barber Shop. In 1975 he moved to Rigby where he owned and operated the Ricks Barber Shop. Richard drove school bus and worked as a custodian for the Terreton Elementary. He was a city councilman in Terreton, and a volunteer firefighter. Richard served in the United States Army from April of 1945 to May of 1946. He was a member of the V.F.W. Snake River Post 1004. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was a high priest and had served as a counselor in the Elders quorum presidency, Stake Sunday School presidency and as the seventies secretary. Richard enjoyed working outside and he loved children and they loved him.
Richard is survived by his wife Luella Ricks of Rigby, one daughter Linda Cheney of Boise, three sons Lynn W. Ricks of Mesa, Arizona, Gary (DeAnn) Ricks of Rigby, and Larry (Mary Ann) Ricks of Menan, three sisters June Brown of Rigby, Katherine (Jimmy) Park of Driggs, and Wilma (Jack) Winters of Chino, California, 21 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Ed, Ben, Tom and Earl Ricks and two sisters Marvella Littleford and Ellen Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. in the Milo LDS Church with Bishop Bart Davis officiating. The family will visit with friends on Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow the services at the Milo Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Military rites will be performed by the Jefferson Veterans Team
