Richard Clay “Rik” Thomas, 81, of Rigby, passed away on Sept 8, 2010 at his home.
He was born on May 16, 1929 in Tacoma, Washington, the only child of Bud Thomas and Maebelle Atherton Thomas. He joined the US Army in 1948, and served two years, then joined the Merchant Marines for a short time.
He worked on survey teams and as a concrete and soils inspector in Washington, Iceland, Missouri and California. He came to Idaho Falls to work on the Ririe Dam project in 1974 and remained there until moving to Rigby about 10 years ago.
He enjoyed skiing, hiking and climbing in his younger days, and was always interested in small planes and photography. He was a very sociable person with a good sense of humor.
He is survived by two cousins, Jackie Hillstrom of Port Angeles, WA and Ethel Mae Norgar of Corvallis, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, 101 West Main Street, Rigby. Military Rites will be presented by Jefferson Veterans Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a humane society of your choice.
