Robert “Bob” William Bates, 70, of Rigby died on Tuesday, February 07, 2006, at his home.
Bob was born on October 6, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho a son of William Bates and Pearl Irene Bates. He was raised and attended schools in Idaho Falls and Rexburg. Bob married Sharon Hazel Walters on June 5, 1956 in Lorenzo, Idaho. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob worked for Swager Motors in Rigby, Taylor Chevrolet in Rexburg, B.A. Wackerli Buick in Idaho Falls, and Monte Wight Chevrolet as a parts manager. Later in life Bob worked the summers as a boat ramp host at Byington boat dock, and Conant boat dock on the south fork of the Snake River. Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with his family.
Bob is survived by his wife Sharon Bates, one daughter Debra Kelsey, three sons Jerry Robert (Cindy) Bates, Craig W. (Lori) Bates all of Rigby, Michael Lynn (Cindy) Bates of Idaho Falls, one sister Maryann Rowe of Rexburg, two brothers, Paul (Judy) Bates of Yakima, WA, and Billy Bates of Boise, Idaho, 14 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two grandchildren Tiffany and Christopher Bates.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Rigby East Stake Center on Saturday, February 11, 2006 with Bishop Wayne Call officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday evening from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and prior to the services at the Stake Center from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow the services at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
