Robert “Bob” Lee Hay Sr. 87, of Billings, Montana passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022.
Bob was born October 27, 1934 to Ruth Captioula Hicks and George Morris Hay in Ronan, Montana; the oldest of 4 sons. The family lived in Montana and California before settling in the Idaho Falls, Idaho area.
Bob joined the US Air Force in 1955 and served until 1960. He served in the Washington, DC area, Thule, Greenland and Mountain Home, Idaho. On November 5, 1959, Bob was united in marriage to Margaret Hodges in the Idaho Falls Temple. Bob worked for Vangas/Suburban Propane from 1961 until his retirement as the manager of the West Yellowstone office, in 1996.
Bob loved and appreciated the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, camping or boating. The family lived in some of the most beautiful places; Jackson Hole, Wyoming, Island Park, Idaho and West Yellowstone, Montana where he met many wonderful acquaintances and made lifelong friends.
Bob and Margaret had 5 children and Bob taught them all the value of hard work and love. In 2017, they made their final move to Billings, Montana to be close to their health care providers.
Bob is survived by his wife, Margaret Hodges Hay of Billings, MT; son, Robert Hay Jr. of Billings, MT; daughters, Myrna Hay (Nathan Dekker) of Watford City, ND, Lauri (Arnold) Graff of Billings, MT, Brenda (Terry) Filler of Arnegard, ND; son Richard (Jackie) Hay of Three Forks, MT; Eight grandchildren; Britnee (Andy) Olsen, Cody (Michelle) Wyant, Austin Whitman (Zoe Young), Trevor Graff (Shaye Austby), Byron Hay, Hunter Whitman, Trace Hay, and Parker Filler. Two great-grandchildren; Waylon Wyant and Gentry Wyant, his younger brother, George (Vonda) Hay of Woodville, ID and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth, and brothers Ron, and Paul Hay.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Eckersell Funeral Home, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, Idaho. A visitation will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and prior to funeral services from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. all at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Grant Central Cemetery.
