Robert "Bob" Theodore Sager

Robert Theodore Sager, (Bob), of Menan, passed away at his home, Thursday, June 29, 2017. He was born January 5, 1934 in Lander, Wyoming to Clarence Thomas Sager and Nora Margaret Walters Sager. Third child, his brother Clarence Jr. greeted him.  His sister, Dorothy passed away in infancy.  Bob was baptized at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lander, WY, June 4, 1939.  Bob and Jr had a happy childhood roaming the countryside, mountains and streams, even the range land in central Wyoming.At a young age, Bob acquired a close friend in Lander named Danny Louge.  They grew up close as brothers.  They both served their country in the military.  Danny joined the Navy, and Bob was drafted into the Army  May 6, 1958 serving in Germany.  He was discharged April 27, 1960 and called back a second time June 18, 1961 and served at Ft. Riley in Kansas.  He was discharged August 3, 1962.He attended school in Lander, WY until his mom and dad purchased a garage in Riverton and started a Ford dealership.  He graduated from Riverton High School in 1951 and went on to Casper Jr College in Casper, WY graduating June 4, 1954 in agriculture and rodeo.  He loved rodeo which he, his brothers and all his friends did throughout high school and college.He is the father of four children.  Jace Drew Sager, daughter, of Dallas, TX, Brent Sager, Hagerman, ID, Kent Sager, Gooding, ID, and Clint (Vicki) Sager of Wendell, ID.January 3, 1979 Bob married Shirley Johnston Whittaker.  He became an instant father of eight, adding four more children.  Loving and caring for Mickey L. Whittaker, Rodney A. Whittaker, Valarie (Roger) Buchanan, Sherri L. Abbott.  Over the next 38 years he was a kind and generous grandfather to numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He lived his life as a car salesman in Manhattan, Kansas, Riverton, Wyoming and Ogden, Utah.  He then changed his life to sign sales, service and Installation which he did for forty-nine years covering most all of the Western States.  In 1982 he started his own business and worked hard faithfully serving his customers as family until becoming too ill to until in February, 2017.Being diagnosed with lung and bone cancer on March 1, 2017, he tried very hard, but unsuccessfully to beat it.  We the family share our gratitude for the loving and thoughtful care of Dr Brad Adams and staff at Teton Cancer Institute, nurses Janel and Jill and staff of Aspen Home Health, Wayne Neilsen, PA, Brian Smith and the staff at the VA Clinic in Pocatello.We the family of Bob Sager would appreciate, in place of flowers, donations to our local cancer centers, Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City. There will be a Memorial and Military Rite service at Eckersell Memorial Chapel (101 W. Main Street, Rigby, ID) on July 3, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
