Robert George French, age 86, of Roberts passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Homestead Senior Living in Rexburg, Idaho.

Bob was born September 29, 1937 at Roberts, Idaho, a son to Charles Thomas French and Thora Hall Belnap French.  He attended Roberts Schools graduating from Roberts High School.  He continued his education at Ricks College and Utah State University, graduating from Utah State with a Master’s Degree.

Intermittently, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States.

While at Ricks College, Bob joined the National Guard where he served for 25 years.  He put himself through college working evenings and nights at Roberts IGA and Dutsons AG grocery stores and as a cook at the Roberts Cafe, and also a summer at the Teton lodge in Jackson Hole, waiting tables.

Following his Ricks College graduation, he began his teaching career teaching business skills at Roberts High School, Rigby High School and Ricks College.  Through his National Guard experience, he had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. and serve as a secretary in the Pentagon.  He extended his time in Washington D. C. working in the OPM (Office of Personnel Management).

About 1970 Bob purchased 40 acres and a small house in Roberts. Then in the 1980’s he bought an additional 80 acres of farm and pasture ground across the road from his Roberts home.  He eventually had a cattle operation there with his brother, Gene.  They have been partners in this industry to the present time.

Bob had many interests and hobbies including tap dancing, horses, cattle, chickens, cooking, collecting coins and antiques and visiting with friends and neighbors.  He was a great host and loved to entertain.  He had many guests visit him in Washington D. C, where he showed them the sights.  Then when he returned to his home in Roberts, he likewise enjoyed visits from his D.C. friends, showing them the sights in this area, including Yellowstone and Teton National Parks.

He is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint, was a devoted member of the Roberts Lions Club and a Dance group.

Bob is survived ty two brothers, Gene (ReNae) French of Grant, Idaho; Reynold (Aleisha) French of Twin Falls, Idaho; 27 nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren, who all lovingly called him “Uncle Bob”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Thora French, a brother LaMar French, a sister Marlene Rasmussen, one niece Tammy McKague and one nephew, Jarrin French.

The family will visit with friends Monday, March 18, 2024 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 663 North 2858 East, Roberts, Idaho 83444 from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. with Funeral services at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will take place at the Market Lake Cemetery under direction of Eckersell Funeral Home.
