Robert William Huffaker, age 85, of Menan, Idaho, passed away on September 15, 2026, at Homestead Care Facility while under the care of Hospice of Eastern Idaho.
Robert was born December 7, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Allen Cromwell Huffaker and Theressa Merrill Huffaker. After high school, he served in the Idaho National Guard and attended a radio maintenance course at Fort Benning, Georgia. He also studied electronics.
A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Robert served in the Eastern States Mission from 1966 to 1967, serving in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Shortly after returning home, he married Karen Brown on October 11, 1967, in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple. Together they shared nearly 59 years of marriage and raised seven children. Robert and Karen later served together in the Concepción Chile South Mission from 2008 to 2010.
Robert loved gardening, tinkering, and working in his shop, especially with his machine lathe. He had a gift for figuring out how things worked. He also enjoyed camping with his family and, despite the demands of supporting seven children, made time for occasional camping trips together.
Robert was a hard worker who took a hands-on approach and liked to stay busy wherever he worked. He worked with the South family at Monolithic Constructors, Inc. for many years, both on construction crews and in the shop. During that time, he developed and manufactured the concrete nozzles used in the construction of the domes.
Robert is survived by his wife, Karen Huffaker; his seven children, Sharla Rae Johnson and her husband, Patrick; Doug Huffaker; Marvin Huffaker; Kevin Huffaker and his wife, Pam; Rod Huffaker and his wife, Claudia; Pam Harris and her husband, Caleb; and Stacey Huffaker. He is also survived by his sisters, Beth Wald and Deana Turman; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Merrill Huffaker and Merrill’s wife, Laura; his brother Lynn Huffaker and Lynn’s wife, Beverly; his sister Gay Clark and her husband, Lester; his sister Pat McMullen and her husband, Ross; his sister Arba Huffaker; his brother-in-law Fred Wald, husband of his sister Beth Wald; and his daughter-in-law Amy Huffaker, wife of his son Marvin Huffaker.
