Robert Hurley, 94 of Rigby, died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at The Gardens of Rigby. Bob was born September 15, 1921 in Ohiowa, Nebraska to Miles VanHorn Hurley and Louise Rose Hurley. He was raised and attended schools in Ohiowa, Nebraska. His family moved to Idaho in 1937 and farmed in the Idaho Falls area. He served in the United States Navy during WWII aboard the USS San Marcus. On February 23, 1947 he married Dorothy Jean Storer in Milo, Idaho. Their Marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on February 23, 1971. In 1955 he moved his family to Rigby. Bob worked for Bonded Produce from 1955 to 1957. He then joined with Don Bass and his brother Harold Hurley and started Bass and Hurley Potato Processing. The joint business was sold, and then years later purchased back under the name Hurley Produce. Bob was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; he served in many capacities including Sunday School Presidency, in the High Priest Group, as a teacher, and as an auditor in the Rigby East Stake. In his early years, he served in the Boy Scouts. Bob served as Jefferson County Commissioner for 8 years, on the Rigby City Council for 8 years, and as President of the Rigby Rotary Club. Bob enjoyed riding snow machines, fishing, golfing and traveling throughout the world with his beloved wife Dorothy. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Dorothy Hurley, of Rigby, daughter, Carolyn Openshaw, of Idaho Falls, grandchildren, Jeff Hurley, of Salt Lake City, Utah, Jacob Openshaw of Idaho Falls, Chance Openshaw of Salt Lake City, Utah, Yasmine Openshaw of Idaho Falls, and great-granddaughter, Victoria Hurley. He was preceded in death by his sons, Steven Hurley, Bruce Hurley, Mark Hurley, brothers, Melvin Hurley, Jack Hurley, Harold Hurley and Calvin Hurley. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Rigby 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 364 North 4100 East, Rigby. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 West Main Street, Rigby, and from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, at the church. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery, services are under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.eckersellfuneralhome.com
