Robert Story “Bob” Watson, age 75, of Menan, died at his home, Friday, July 22, 2005.
Bob was born March 17, 1930, in Idaho Falls, Idaho a son of Glenn Laveda Watson and Thelma Oram Watson. He attended Menan School’s graduating from Midway High School. He attended BYU in Provo, Utah. He married Helen Nord, July 25, 1956 at Las Vegas, Nevada. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
In his younger years he farmed in the Menan area. He retired in 1987 after working for First Security Bank in Rigby for 20 years and in the Idaho Falls 1st Steet Branch.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Welfare Specialist
Bob served as a Menan City Councilman, and one term as Mayor of Menan. He was active in the Rigby Chamber of Commerce, Rigby Lions Club, and had served as President of the Rigby Rotary Club. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Jefferson Hills Golf Association. He owned and enjoyed thoroughbred race horses.
He is survived by his wife Helen Watson of Menan, 2 daughters: Deena (Don) LaRue of Kennewick, Washington, and Laura Jane Watson of Boise, Idaho, 3 sons: Rhett R. (Diana) Watson of Menan, Rand S. (Caroline) Watson of Menan and Rick G. (Marie) Watson of Menan, 1 sister Rene’ (John) Estey of Federal Way, Washington. Survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by 1 grandson Shawn Morgan.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Menan 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Spencer Kelsey officiating. The family will meet with friends Monday, July 25, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel and on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 at the Menan 1st Ward LDS Church from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
