Roger Jones, 69, of Aberdeen, Maryland, formerly of Rigby, passed away June 21, 2008 of congestive heart failure.
He was born to Philip Hyrum and Lila Ruth Bateman Jones on August 19, 1938 in Shelley. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Shelley High School. He was called to serve a two year L.D.S mission to California. His mother passed away during this time. In 1961 he served his country in the United States Army. Roger met and married Elleen Quinton in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 7, 1964; he was devoted to her in providing care during recent years of ill health. They are parents of two children.
Roger drove for Dairyland Milk delivery for several years. Later he worked for Ricks College in Rexburg, teaching religion and as a manager of Central Supply.
Roger was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Over the years he served in many stake and ward positions. As Roger’s health declined and he could no longer care for his wife they moved to Maryland to live with his son.
Roger enjoyed calling square dances, fishing and riding horses.
He is survived by his wife, Elleen Jones, of Aberdeen Maryland, Son, Craig (Laura) Jones. Daughter, Sharon Sathiyanathan of Salt Lake City, UT, sister, Annette (Jim) Wilson of Rexburg, sister-in-law, Barbara Jones, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Philip George Jones and James Hyrum Jones.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 30, 2008 at Fielding Memorial Cemetery, with Military Rites by Bonneville Veterans Team. The family will visit with friends on Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Eckersell Memorial Chapel, 101 W. Main St., Rigby.
