Roger A. Sauer

September 5, 1942 — October 22, 2013

Roger Alvin Sauer, age 71, of Idaho Falls, died at his home surrounded by his family, after a wicked bout with metastatic kidney cancer, Tuesday October 22, 2013. Roger was born September 5, 1942 in Idaho Falls to Alvin Adam Sauer and Marjorie Dora Robison Sauer. He was the only boy in a family of 3 sisters. He attended schools in Rigby graduating from Rigby High School. He tried college then thought the Military was better suited for him serving in the US Navy for 4 years. Roger worked hard all his life, working in Meat packing plants, King B and Golden Valley, and in 1974 he started working for HK Contractors in heavy construction as a project superintendent, where he later retired. He took pride in working for them and was a great example to all who worked with him and for him. He married Charlene Hughes with her two daughters in 1964 and was later divorced. On January 12, 1979 he married Vicky Rae Hansen in Idaho Falls. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on October 21, 2000. With this union they raise 5 children. Roger was a great Father, but he was a sensational husband, he deeply loved Vicky. He is an active member of the LDS Church, serving on the high council in the Menan stake and the Idaho Falls East Stake. He always committed completely to his callings, even though he never could convert to the I-pad generation. Roger’s favorite pastime was golf. He loved the beautiful days spent with Vicky and dear friends on the course. Although it wasn’t about the competition, he won his fair share of rounds. Second was bird hunting and fishing with his grandkids. Through his enjoyment of the outdoors, his grandkids also grew to love the sports, memories they will never forget. Survivors include: his wife Vicky Sauer of Idaho Falls, daughters: Leigh Anne (Mike) Collins of Salt Lake City, Utah and Shalene Marie (LeRoy) Shepherd of Idaho Falls, sons: Robert Eric (Leesa) Barney of Boise, Idaho, Roger DeAlvin Sauer of Idaho Falls and Ryan Ray (Amber Kay) Barney of Germany, step daughters: Debbie (Val) Dorman and Kim (Bruce) Mathews Sisters: Beverly Wilcox of Houston, Texas, Joan Geisler of Winter Springs, Florida and Rheta (Warren) Siglin of Idaho Falls, 29 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
