Ronald Sylvenous Merrill, 70 of Menan died Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Ronald was born March 1, 1947 in Rigby, Idaho to Solyman Sylvenous Merrill and Ruth Marine Thorngren Merrill Strupp.
He attended school in Lewisville, Idaho and graduated from Rigby High School. On December 17, 1965 Ronnie married Hellen Kaye Cooper Merrill, in Menan, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on May 7, 1968.
Ronnie served in the 116th National Guard Unit in Vietnam. He worked for many years for Clement’s. He has been the mayor for the City of Menan, on Menan’s planning and zoning and served as a Menan Town Council Member for several years. He served as a Scout Master and for many many years he lit off the fireworks for the Fourth of July celebration in Menan. He loved being involved with the community and help out as much as he could.
Spending time with his family was the most important thing to him. He loved to go camping and hunting. Ronnie currently owned and operated a trucking company and about 300 head of mother cows (with help of the family).
He is survived by his wife of 51 years Hellen Kaye Cooper Merrill, Mike (Tawnya) Merrill of Roberts; Brett (Jennifer) Merrill of Menan; Ronald Vene (Nikey) Merrill of Grant and KaSandra (Allen) Grant of Ririe, eleven Grandchildren: Cody (Shantelle), Anthony, Jerred, Kendalyn, Riggin, Roper, Rangler, Kristine, Edward, & Michael and four Great-Grandchildren: Canon, Colt, Bentlie and Tuckur. Four brothers and three sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Warren (Dick) Merrill and a grandson Martin Brett Merrill.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the Menan LDS Stake Center (698 North 3600 East, Menan, ID) at 1:00 PM. The family will meet with friends Monday, April 17, 2017 from 6:30 to 8:00 PM and again from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM on Tuesday prior to services, both at the Menan LDS Stake Center. Interment will be in the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
