Last call for Retired Volunteer Firefighter, Ronald Ross Preston of Ririe, Idaho. He was called home to continue his service on January 1, 2018, at the age of 82. He was born to Ralph and Hilda (Latturner) Preston on May 13th, 1935 in Castlegate, Utah. Ronald, who was lovingly referred to by all who knew him as Uncle Ronnie, grew up in Sunnyside, Utah. He worked in many fields including the coal mines alongside his brothers but his passion was firefighting and even after his retirement, he stayed involved with the fire department. Ronnie was loved by all he met and had a carefree attitude. He loved being outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing, riding ATV’s, camping, or even just sitting on the porch watching the world. Ronnie never married and never had children of his own but always felt like his great nephew Steven Preston and great niece Nikki Young were his. Around 2010, Ronnie left Utah and came to Ririe, Idaho to live with Steven and his son. Since then, he met and became part of a whole new family. Joey and Shantell Wilde, along with their wonderful children and other family members, helped Steven care for Ronnie and loved Ronnie deeply. And in 2014, Michelle (May) Preston and her children joined the family. He was preceded in death by both his parents and all of his siblings. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Uncle Ronnie never wanted a funeral so we will be honoring his wishes. We will hold a celebration of life at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
