Rose Harrop Hoopes

Rose Harrop Hoopes, 85, of Idaho Falls, formerly of LaBelle, beloved wife mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, died March 7, 2007 at E.I.R.M.C. after surgery. She was born December 25, 1921, in LaBelle, Idaho at the home of her parents Jesse Samuel Harrop and Myrtle Cady Roston Harrop. She attended schools at LaBelle and Rigby, graduating from Rigby High School. At 16 years of age, she attended Woodbury College in Los Angeles to Study Fashion Merchandising. She later furthered her education at Utah State University obtaining a Bachelor’s of Education. She married Hugh Hoopes August 25, 1941 in Idaho Falls, residing in LaBelle and Teton Basin where they farmed. For 20 years she taught Home Economics, English and Government at Ririe High School. She organized and directed the “Miss Ririe High Pageant” for many years. Former students were always approaching her and thanking her for teaching them. In 1950, she helped to establish the “Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority” becoming a charter member and continued to be active in this organization until her death. She was an active member of the LaBelle Camp “Daughters of the Utah Pioneers” and served as parliamentarian. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary teacher sorority. For many years she worked for the American Cancer Society. Rose took Senior Aerobics until her health prohibited it and then took Senior Exercises at Fairwinds up until her death. Rose was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church positions throughout her life. Most of her life she was a member of the LaBelle Ward. After her husband, Hugh, passed away in 1999, Rose moved to Idaho Falls and lived in an apartment attached to her daughter and son-in-law’s, Marcia and Bill Lofholm. She became and active member of the Idaho Falls 15th Ward and made many new friends. Dressing up and attending church each Sunday was the highlight of Rose’s week. Rose had a passion for learning. Wherever she went, she encouraged young people to get an education. She was an avid reader. She loved fashion, traveling and sewing. She judged sewing projects at the county and state fairs for many years. Rose and her husband, Hugh, Traveled extensively in the United States and to many foreign countries. She had a great love for animals and always had pet dogs and cats. Rose taught her children and family the art of kindness. She was very generous and always caring of the other person. Her family and friends will truly miss her. Rose is survived by her daughter, Marcia Lofholm (Bill) Idaho Falls; 3 grandchildren, Suzanne Nolan (Mark) New York; Pamela Sleven (Greg) Boise; Jeffery Hoopes (Valerie) Rigby; a daughter in law, Linda Hoopes of Idaho Falls and 8 great grandchildren. In-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends also survive her. Rose was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Myrtle Harrop; two brothers, Cleo Harrop and Irvin Harrop; her husband, Hugh Hoopes; and her son Richard (Dick) Hoopes. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday March 14, 2007 at Rigby LaBelle 2nd Ward with Bishop James Bazil officiating. The family will meet with friends Tuesday Evening 6:30 -8:00 at Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby and Wednesday from 11:30am-12:45pm at the LaBelle 2nd Ward. Burial will be at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery.
