Rosetta Christiansen Smith, 84, of Rigby, Idaho died Saturday, June 4, 2005 at the Madison Memorial Hospital. Rosetta was born August 1, 1920 in Lava Hot Springs a daughter of Edward Williams and Hazel May Reese Williams. She was raised and attended school in Blaser, a train stop town by Lava Hot springs, and graduated high school in Lava Hot Springs. She played basketball for the Lava high school. Rosetta married James Duane Christiansen on June 20, 1939 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. James preceded her in death on 1961. She married James Franklin Smith on December 20, 1967 in Rexburg, Idaho. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1993. Rosetta was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as a teacher in the young women’s, a primary teacher, a visiting teacher for the Relief Society for 25 years, and coached the young women in softball. Rosetta farmed and ranched in the Annis and Kilgore areas. She belonged to the Rigby Art Guild. Rosetta enjoyed fishing and riding horses.
Rosetta is survived by her 5 daughters, Carma (Theo) Pelton of Annis, Dorothy Christiansen of Nampa, Fayanna (Steven) Groom of Annis, Jo (John) Hughey of Annis, and Brenda Christiansen of Annis, 4 sons, Robert (Jean Ann) Christiansen of Osgood, Gene (Sharlene) Christiansen of Rigby, Bruce (Trudy) Christiansen of Idaho Falls, Calvin Christiansen of Annis. One brother Edward (Jean) Williams of California. 37 grandchildren, 67 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren.
Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, four sisters, two brothers, and one grandson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at the Menan Stake center with Bishop Kevin Searle officiating. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. and prior to the services on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at the stake center. Burial will follow the services at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby. Contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in remembrance of Rosetta.
