Ruby Marie Jardine Tolley, 83, of Provo, UT, (formerly of Idaho) passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 11, 2013, following a short illness.
She was born April 5, 1930, in Roberts, ID, the first of six children, to Leo LeRoy Jardine and Vera Staker. One of Marie’s earliest memories was of being sealed to her family in the Logan LDS temple. She attended schools in Rigby, ID, and graduated from Rigby High School in 1948.
Music, family, and the gospel of Jesus Christ were the most important parts of Marie’s life. Marie’s father lost a leg at a young age due to infection, so her parents understood the value of love and compassion for those who are sick – their children were encouraged to sing musical numbers and harmonies in rest homes and other places. Later, Marie also encouraged her own children to sing and play musical instruments, and they often performed together for church and community events as well as family reunions.
Marie married Howard W. Tolley in the Idaho Falls temple in 1948. They had three children together, Cheryl, Terri, and Steven. Marie and Howard lived in Rigby, Montpelier, and Blackfoot, ID, and in Loveland, CO. Marie worked as a secretary, as the registrar for Bear Lake High School, and as an operations officer for First Security Bank. Marie and Howard served a full time mission in La Paz ,Bolivia. They also served as temple workers in the Idaho Falls and Denver temples. Howard passed away in 2002 and Marie moved to Provo a few years later. Marie loved genealogy and family history and couldn’t go anywhere without finding cousins. Everyone loved her “twinkling eyes” and loving personality. We will miss her dearly but know she is having a grand family reunion on the other side.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Phyllis and Leona, and son-in-law Rick Walters. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Walters (Provo), Terri and Brian Evans (Gaithersburg, MD), and Steven and Tammy Tolley (Provo); siblings Myrl Wakley (Brigham City), Bonnie and Norman Hunting (Menan, ID), and David and Rosella Jardine (El Guique, NM).
Funeral Services will be held Saturday November 16, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at the Clark Ward LDS Chapel 198 North 4300 East, Rigby, Idaho. The family will visit with friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.
