Our dear mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Ruth Peterson, 96, of Rigby, Idaho passed away peacefully on October 13, 2014, surrounded by her family.
Ruth was born outside Rigby, the fourth of nine children on April 21, 1918, to Hyrum Lemuel Campbell and Charlotte Rachel Davis Campbell. She was raised on the family farm and proved to be a valued farmhand for her dad. She also drove a school wagon for the Rigby School District while attending school and graduated from Rigby High School.
On September 29, 1938, she married Harold Eugene Peterson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They farmed and eventually were able to buy their own small farm outside Rigby where she spent most of her life. Ruth also worked at several local potato processing plants and eventually retired from Idaho Fresh Pack.
Ruth was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her quick wit proved a delight to those who spent time in her company. She demonstrated her love for family through the many years of sacrifice and service she freely offered. She believed in the virtue of hard work and taught this value to her children and grandchildren.
Ruth is survived by eight of her nine children, Fred (Sharon) Peterson, Linda (Lester) Allen, Larry Peterson, Harold (Venus) Peterson, Marilyn (Ronald) Bump, Nancy (Merle) Potter, Lyle (Marietta) Peterson, and Peggy (Russell) Bloxham; a treasured daughter-in-law, Dootzie Peterson, 30 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, a son Robert Eugene, all her brothers and sisters, and her parents.
A graveside service and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 18, 2014, at the Rigby Pioneer Cemetery in Rigby. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Rigby East Stake Center.
The family would like to thank Aspen Home Health and Hospice for their loving care over these last few years.
