Ruth Murdock Thompson age 88, of Victor formerly of Mud Lake, died Monday, November 21, 2011 at her home in Victor.
Ruth was born March 1, 1923, in Rexburg, Idaho a daughter of Sterling Andrew Murdock and Lorena Ellsworth Murdock, second child, of a large close knit family of ten. She was raised in Sugar City and attended school there until she was ten then her family moved to Teton Valley in 1933, where she graduated from the Teton High School in 1941. Ruth married Charles Leland Thompson on June 4, 1945 in Driggs, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple. She continued her education in Cosmetology at the Idaho State University in Pocatello, where she graduated at the top of her class. She worked in that profession for 42 years, running a salon at Driggs and the Thompson Variety and at Mud Lake from 1957 to 1981.
Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in the Sunday School, the primary, and the Relief Society. She belonged to the women’s V. F.W. Auxiliary. In 2002 she moved with her daughter and family back to Teton Valley. She suffered the effects of dementia for 20 years, but remained gracious and loving.
Ruth was a beautiful seamstress and sewed all her own clothes. She loved to decorate and kept an immaculate house. She was kind and loving, and fed everyone that came to her home. She was the perfect mother and grandmother who always had a smile on her face. She was loved and respected by all who knew her.
Ruth is survived by her daughter Ginger (Lonnie) Luker of Victor, three sons Grant (Barbara) Thompson of Victor, Tracy (Cindy) Thompson of Snake River, Shane (Belinda) Thompson of Driggs, four sisters, Ann (Darwin) Thompson of Idaho Falls, Donna Thompson of Victor, Lorena Mae ( Richard) Whiting of Idaho Falls, Marva (Phillip) Condie of St. George, Utah, one brother, Lorin (Dorothy) Murdock of Paris, Texas, 25 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Victor 3rd Ward Chapel with Bishop Craig Kunz conducting. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Burial will be at the Bates Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Funeral Home in Rigby.
