Sarah Fullmer Haugh, 96, of Rigby, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at her home.
Sarah was born May 5, 1922, in Clawson, Idaho to Charles and Gladys Fullmer. Raised on a farm, she attended schools in Tetonia and Driggs, graduating from Teton High School. Sarah excelled as a singer, pianist, and trombonist. She graduated from Ricks Academy and got a job teaching in a two-room school near Rexburg.
Sarah met Leon Haugh in Salt Lake City, Utah, and on June 5, 1943, they were married in Tucson, Arizona. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah, Temple on August 21, 1950. They created a happy marriage together for 63 years.
Leon and Sarah made their home in Rigby after Leon was discharged from the Air Force after WWII. Their dream was to have a mink ranch and together they worked hard for years to make that dream come true. They were also blessed with 4 children; Denyse, Janette, Galen and Renee’.
Sarah returned to teaching in 1962. She returned to college to earn her BA degree in Education in 1966. She taught many subjects including English, Reading, and Choir but her passion was Math. She and her students competed successfully in many Math Counts contest. She retired from teaching in 1984. Her former students have said, “Mrs. Haugh was the hardest - and best – math teacher I ever had.”
Sarah was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint and served in many leadership capacities in Primary, Young Women’s, and Relief Society. One highlight of her service was taking 32 girls and 8 adults and traveling for two weeks to various Church and American history sites including The Hill Cumorah Pageant and Washington DC.
Sarah blessed the lives of many with her musical gifts. She taught her children how to play the piano and sing harmony. She was an excellent cook, seamstress, quilter, and taught many of her posterity how to knit and crochet. She was passionate about genealogy.
Sarah and Leon loved watching their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in various activities. You would often find them cheering at their games or clapping at their performances. They will always be fondly remembered for the love and support they freely gave.
Sarah is survived by her children; Denyse (David) Munson serving mission in Tanzania, Africa) Janette (Dennis) Stevens, Galen Haugh, Renee’ (Kent) Allen (serving mission in Milan, Italy), 21 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Sisters; Veda Strikwerda (Washington), Merle Lofthouse (Utah), and Grace Taylor (Idaho). She is preceded in death by her husband Leon Haugh, sisters, Martha Bradley, Venece Killian; and brother Lester Fullmer.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rigby 11 th Ward Chapel (106 N. 3800 E. Rigby). The family will receive friends Friday from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby and Saturday from 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Cache Clawson Cemetery in Tetonia under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel.Eckersell Funeral Home
