Sheila Kerlee, age 73, passed away with loved ones near, on December 4, 2015, in Nampa, Idaho, due to pneumonia from dementia complications. Sheila was born in Burley, Idaho on September 2, 1942 to Robert and Norma Moon. At the age of sixteen she lost her mother and took on the emotional responsibilities of an adult. Sheila carried this ability to care for those that were broken, hurt or lost for the rest of her life. She took charge of her father and brother and excelled as an honor student. After graduating, she received a scholarship to BYU where she continued to succeed. Sheila graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science Degree. She furthered her studies at UCLA and received her graduate degree in physical therapy. Sheila was an active participant of The Daughters of the American Revolution and also served as 1st Lieutenant in the Air Force. She met Barry D. Bastian and was married in the LDS Los Angeles temple, 1964. They had nine children, whom they taught to work hard on their dairy farm in Nampa, Idaho. Sheila also worked full time as a physical therapist, and helped her husband manage THEIR full working dairy. Barry and Sheila were divorced after twenty-seven years of marriage. Sheila married James Donald Kerlee of Rigby, Idaho in the Dallas, Texas temple in 1994. Sheila continued her therapy until she retired. Sheila was diagnosed with dementia at the very young age of 63. Sheila was known for her ability to overcome any obstacle, large or small, with a smile. She had a great love for animals, especially her Tennessee Walkers. Sheila served the Lord with all of her heart, might, mind and strength and taught her children by her loving example. She will be remembered and missed.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Richard and Elliot and sister, Sharon. She is survived by her spouse, James Donald Kerlee of Round Valley, ID and sister Merilyn Parkinson of Layton, UT and her children with their spouses, Sid & Leslie Bastian of Mapelton, UT, Katherine & Steve Moore of Brasilia, Brazil, Heidi & Derek Bills of Roswell, NM, Jennifer & Curtis Whiting of Austin, TX, Athlyn & Lee Kellogg of Kuna, ID, Ryan & Whitney Bastian of Caldwell, ID, Christiana & John-Paul Macy of Portland, OR, Dan & Sarah Bastian of Nampa, ID, Ilene & Morgan Compton of Folsom, CA, Kailyn & Robert Cano and Krikit & Brian Rast of Plano. 42 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11, at 7:00 p.m. at the LDS Chapel at 313 E Deer Flat Road, Kuna Idaho. Viewing will start at 5:30pm until time of service. A visitation will be held at the Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby, Idaho on Saturday December 12, from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. with graveside sercive at 3:00 p.m. at the Market Lake Cemetery under the direction of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
