Sheryn DaBell Leavitt, 81, of Idaho Falls and formerly of Rigby, died Friday, February 5th, 2016, at The Gables in Ammon.
Sheryn was born May 3rd, 1934 in Idaho Falls, a daughter of Emmett Warren DaBell and Elma Rounds DaBell. She was raised in Grant, Rigby and Lewisville, and graduated from Rigby High School. She married Jesse Boyd Leavitt July 8th 1953 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
She is survived by her husband Boyd Leavitt of Idaho Falls; daughters, Susan (Russell) Blank of Snellville, Georgia, and Laurie (Gary) Pounder of Salem, Oregon; sons, Gary (Lisa) Leavitt of North Salt Lake, Utah and Ronald (Kathleen) Leavitt of Pocatello, Idaho, her brother Jerry (Christy) DaBell of Sandy, Utah, 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Her father and mother, sister Alona and brother Burdette preceded her in death.
Sheryn spent most of her adult life in Rigby. Some of her happiest years were in Toms River, New Jersey living by the ocean, serving in the Toms River Ward, and creating new friendships. They moved back to Idaho Falls in 1992 to help care for her mother-in-law and little sister.
Sheryn was an exceptional piano and organ player. She could play perfectly any song after just going though the music a couple of times, She taught piano lessons in her home for over 16 years. She also worked for Chesbro Music Company, Garrett Freight Lines, the Klothes Kloset, and Solitude Sports, Inc.
With the early death of her parents, she became responsible for raising her brother Jerry and sister Alona along with her own four children who were under the age of six. She loved the many vacation trips with family and friends to Island Park, Boise, Salmon, Washington, Arizona and the family adult trip to Hawaii. There were several trips to Salt Lake just for dinner because either they or their friends had a new car and they needed to make sure it worked properly.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and relied heavily on her faith in the Savior to help with the many health challenges she faced during her adult years. She served faithfully in callings in Primary, as ward organist and in Relief Society presidencies. She especially enjoyed working with Primary children in the Cedar Hills Ward.
