Shirley W. Hendricks, 90, of Idaho Falls, formerly of Rigby, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 28, 2013, surrounded by her family at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living in Idaho Falls.
She was born November 27, 1922 in Rigby, Idaho to Hyrum Royal Williams and Elizabeth Kinghorn Williams. She attended schools in Rigby, graduating in 1941. She worked at JC Penny as a Cashier, and then was promoted to Assistant Manager, all the while caring for her mother who was blind. On October 19, 1942, she married Thel D. Hendricks in Pocatello, Idaho shortly before Thel was drafted into the military during World War II. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple December 3, 1943. They were blessed with 1 daughter and 3 sons. She lived in Rigby throughout her life, in 2012, when her health declined, she moved to Idaho Falls to live with her daughter, Pam.
Shirley was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; she served in the Primary and Relief Society Organizations, she served in the Missionary Program and enjoyed many hours doing Family History; she also served in the Singles Organization, as a Temple Worker in the Idaho Falls Temple, and as a Visiting Teacher. In 1978 she became a widow and went back to work at Mitchell’s True Value, Reed Drug, then Broulim’s where she worked as Lead Bookkeeper for 25 years.
Bookkeeping came naturally to her and she enjoyed it very much. She also loved working in her flower and vegetable garden and sharing her harvest with family and friends. She was a talented seamstress and made a lot of children’s clothing, then later, aprons and dish towels to sell at her friend Nina’s “Home Spun Gifts” annual fall sale.
The family expresses their gratitude to those who cared for Shirley at Turtle and Crane Assisted Living and Hands of Hope Hospice.
She is survived by her daughter, Pamela (JR) Noonan, of Idaho Falls, son, Terry (Charelene) Hendricks, of Rigby, 9 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
